Emberlight Festival Gearing Up for Opening Night of The Main Stage Performances

The Emberlight Festival, an annual celebration that produces world-class art within the natural beauty of Michigan’s western Upper Peninsula, is gearing up for Opening Night of Broadway Under the Stars, Mykkanen & Arida In Recital, Behind the Curtain, and the International Film Festival, as well as additional free programming.

Broadway Under the Stars, starring Broadway performers and Juilliard-trained musicians (including local favorite Miles Mykkanen) at the beautiful Historic Ironwood Theatre opens this Thursday, August 26 and runs through Saturday, August 28, with one performance each night at 7:30 PM.  Tickets are $30 for Premium Seats or $20 for Student Tickets. Broadway Under the Stars is sponsored by Stormy Kromer and Jacquart Fabric Products. Tickets are available online at emberlight.org, at The Leather & Gift Shop or at the door at the Historic Ironwood Theatre on performance nights.

Earlier in the day on Saturday, August 28, the rising star of the classical music world, homegrown tenor Miles Mykkanen, returns to the Historic Ironwood Theatre for one afternoon only. Joined by the acclaimed pianist John Arida, the duo will present musical favorites by the great composers of the 20th century including Strauss, Britten, Respighi, and Stravinsky. The SOLD OUT recital will take place Saturday, August 28th at 1:00 PM.

Next up is the Emberlight International Film Festival. The Film Festival is overseen by international director and producer, Colton Pometta, from August 31 – September 3, 2021. The 2021 Film Festival will focus on narrative shorts, documentary shorts, and micro films.  The Emberlight International Film Festival is sponsored by the Ironwood Tourism Council. Screenings that were previously scheduled to be shown at the Downtown Ironwood Depot Pavilion will now be screened at Theatre North. Premium seats are $10 available online, at The Leather & Gift Shop, and at the door.

Curious about the real, off-stage life of a Broadway performer? Join Philip Stoddard and the guest artists of the Emberlight Festival for an intimate and wide-ranging discussion of the creative process, hear stories of triumphs and challenges, and ask questions you’ve always wondered about. Behind the Curtain is a special, one-night-only exclusive event pulling back the curtain on the artistic journeys of tomorrow’s stars. This event will take place at Theatre North on Sunday, August 29 at 4:00 PM. Only 75 tickets are available and are $10 for Premium Seats.

The Emberlight Festival is also proud to offer nearly 20 free events in conjunction with the festival, including the world premiere of Dirk Wierenga’s “Route 2 Elsewhere” (September 1, City Square, 7:30 PM ), Art in the Park, the Film Festival Red Carpet Finale (September 3, City Square, 7:30 PM), and many more. Monday, August 23rd kicks off the information kiosk at the Downtown Ironwood Depot. Visitors can stop by, ask questions, purchase merchandise, and more. The kiosk will be open everyday from 10 AM – 5:30 PM August 23 through September 3. As always, tickets are available at The Leather & Gift Shop or online at emberlight.org.

The Emberlight Festival is committed to following every COVID-19 guideline set by the C.D.C. and the State of Michigan at the time of our events. Masks are required indoors for any Emberlight events regardless of vaccination status.
